Google creates 2-step verification with unique, changing, mobile-phone delivered log-in numbers in addition to passwords.

February 10, 2011

Google’s 2-step verification technique goes beyond  passwords, relying instead on mobile text messaging or mobile apps or even calling you directly at a phone.  Google uses these communication options to deliver unique numbers independent of your browser or computer as an integral part of the Google Account log-in process.

Google will send you a number to be used in conjunction with your User ID and Password.  This number is sent by text message, through use of an app, or by a phone call to you. This Unique Number constantly changes and separate log-ins even one-half hour apart would require different numbers for the final step in the login process.

Here’s one news account:

Note 2-step verification procedures have been available for the paid “Google Apps” users for 2 months.

In case you were unaware, there is a paid option for Google Apps (email account management, domain name and Web site hosting, etc.) with features different from Google’s free versions.

Here’s Google’s instructions and comment.
